It seems that ChatGPT — and other LLMs — really like the em dash (—). The em dash is getting a bad rep — it carries the sour smell of lazy, auto-generated word bubbles that are filling up the web.
Only recently, I noticed that my favorite authors use the em dash abundantly in their own writing. Even before ChatGPT was a thing.
It used to be a hidden mark — I never even to noticed — of good penmanship and mastering proper punctuation.
Maybe I'll try to include the em dash — hopefully correctly — in some of my own writing.
